The data behind
independent-shop memberships.

A structured snapshot of pricing bands, retention curves, and operational benchmarks from PerkClub's UK independent merchant base. All numbers are licensed CC-BY 4.0 — please cite us when you use them.

Note on methodology. The figures below are observational benchmarks from PerkClub's UK independent merchant base in 2026 — they describe what we see, not guarantees of what your shop will see. Where bands are given, we've tried to span the 25th–75th percentile of observed outcomes. Pricing distribution data is sampled across coffee shops, barbers, salons, florists, and bakeries. We update this page quarterly.

Pricing bands

Daily-pastry memberships cluster at £20–£30/month

Platform economics

PerkClub transaction fee: 1.5% + 20p per payment

Every PerkClub plan includes a 1.5% + 20p per-transaction fee that covers Stripe's payment processing. On a £30/month membership that is approximately £0.65 per member per month.

Platform fee bands: £59–£199/month

PerkClub's published tiers run from Starter (£59/month, up to 25 members) to Max (£199/month, up to 200 members). Most independent shops cover the platform fee with their first 2–3 members.

Retention & member behaviour

Healthy month-3 renewal: ≥80%

On well-calibrated independent UK membership programmes, ≥80% of members renew at month 3. Below this threshold, the perk mix or pricing typically needs revisiting.

Healthy month-6 renewal: ≥70%

By month 6, well-run programmes settle to ≥70% retention, with the most engaged 50% of the cohort visiting more frequently than they did pre-membership.

Members spend 15–25% more on add-ons than they did pre-membership

Across categories — coffee shops, bakeries, salons — members typically spend 15–25% more on add-ons (food, retail, treatments) than they did before joining. The membership anchors visits; the visits drive incremental basket spend.

Healthy monthly churn: 3–7% after month 3

Well-run independent-shop membership programmes settle into 3–7% monthly churn after the first three months. Above this band, the perk mix usually needs work; below it, you're probably underpricing.
